A 47-year-old woman drowned while swimming off Treasure Island Monday afternoon.
Firefighters and police officers responded to the 11800 block of Gulf Boulevard at about 3 p.m., after bystanders called 911 to report a person had apparently drowned, according to the Treasure Island Fire Department.
The woman, whose name was not released, had already been pulled from the water and was non-responsive when emergency responders arrived, Fire Chief William Barrs said.
Paramedics performed CPR and the woman was transported to Palms of Pasadena Hospital still breathing, but in life-threatening condition. She was pronounced dead at the hospital.
The woman had been swimming alone, Barrs said. Her husband arrived shortly after.
Barrs said the water was rough Monday and could have been dangerous for swimming. “It was a really bad day out there with a lot of riptides,” he said.
