If you live and breathe for a good brew, you have come to the right place! There is nothing like the smell of the classic, dark and strong cup of espresso. Now that you won’t be getting to drink that strong cup of coffee outside at your favourite cafe, we thought of reminding you that it can be made at home.
We know that not everyone has an espresso machine in their house. This is why we are here with these simple methods of making espresso at home.
Don’t worry, you don’t need barista level skills to master these methods. They are tried and tested to be the easiest methods of making espresso without an espresso machine.
The Aeropress Method
For this method, you will need freshly roasted coffee beans or grounds, an Aeropress and a coffee grinder.
Start by heating one cup of water. You can experiment with different temperatures of water until you find one that you love. Grind your beans very fine and stick to 2 tablespoons for a double espresso and 1 for single. Place a filter in the drain cap of your Aeropress and pour some clean hot water to rinse it. Place the drain cap on the Aeropress and place it on top of a sturdy coffee mug.
Next, put your coffee into the Aeropress in a tight manner. Pour ½ cup of water into the machine and stir. Wait for about 30 seconds after stirring. Start plunging with your hand in a slow but strong manner. Once the plunge is complete, your coffee is ready without an espresso machine. Drink as you like!
Moka Pot Method
The next closest thing to an espresso without a machine is a moka pot version of it. This trusted old school method will satisfy all your coffee cravings. All that you need is some coffee grounds and a moka pot (stove top coffee maker).
Grind your coffee with a coffee grinder. Pour about 3½ ounces of water into the pot. Use the built-in filter to place your coffee. Screw on the spouted top and heat on medium flame. Now, simply wait for the top half of the pot to be filled with the coffee. When it does, your freshly brewed espresso is done!
Remember that making espresso at home without an espresso machine is not always easy. It may take a few tries before you get the hang of this method since it doesn’t involve an automatic machine.
The French Press Method
For making espresso at home without a machine using this method, you will need a French press, coffee grounds and a kettle. This method does involve a few more steps than the other methods, but we guarantee that you will love the results!
Like the other two steps, start by grinding 2 tablespoons of coffee into a very fine consistency. You can add more coffee here for a stranger flavour. A French press does not always brew the strongest coffee. Heat about 1 cup of water on the stove in your kettle. Add your coffee into the French press and soak it with a tiny splash of hot water (for about 30 seconds). Pour rest of the water and leave to brew for 4-5 minutes.
Start plunging but only halfway…
