‘Vets on Water,’ a Hudson River kayaking trip from the Adirondacks to New York City, was met by a crowd of supporters upon arriving at the Hudson River Maritime Museum along the Rondout Creek in Kingston, N.Y., on Tuesday, Sept. 15, 2020. The paddlers included Kevin Keaveny of Shandaken, Matt Russell of Saugerties, Garrison Benz of Marbletown and Bill Carr of Kingston, all members of the Hudson Valley Center for Veteran Reintegration. The 315-mile trip aims to raise awareness about suicide among veterans and active-duty troops, and homelessness among veterans. The paddlers cover about 22 miles per day and sleep on a sailboat piloted by veterans Randy Montagno and Lyndon Bresett, both of Shandaken. The kayakers hope to reach New York City on Sept. 30.
